Speech and Occupational Therapy - PRN

Position Summary:


The Speech and Occupational Therapist will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with speech or language disorders, formulate individualized treatment programs, will provide diagnostic evaluations and treatment to assigned patients, and help patients reach maximum performance level and to use skills learned to the fullest to function in the community within the limits of their capabilities.

Immediate Supervisor :

The Director of Physical Therapy provides supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provides consultation in areas such as environmental design, adaptive equipment, proper positioning of patients.
Assesses the needs of patients with speech or language disorders and matches their needs with programs
Administers and writes evaluations of assigned patients in accordance with departmental standards and procedures.
Maintains timely and accurate patient records and reports.
Designs and administers treatment programs to increase patients' levels of functioning. Uses therapeutic exercises and activities to improve or maintain strength, range of motion, and fine-motor coordination. Instructs patients in adapted techniques and the use of adaptive equipment for meal preparation, home management, dressing, feeding, and other self-care skills.

Special skills required include professional demeanor, be customer service motivated and be able to communicate effectively with patients, family, and healthcare personnel.

Education, Knowledge and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy required.
Master's degree in speech pathology preferred
Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association required.
State license as a speech pathologist required.
One year of experience preferred.

History:

Ward Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed critical access facility providing healthcare services to Ward County and 14 surrounding counties in the area. The hospital has served residents of Ward County since 1956.

The hospital features a Level IV trauma designated emergency room, in addition to a wide range of medical services including laboratory, radiology, general surgery, sleep wellness center, respiratory therapy and cardiac/pulmonary rehab, rheumatology, physical therapy, and two rural health clinics.
