LVN - Med Surg - PRN

Position Summary:

The Med/Surg LVN is responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for inpatient based on established nursing practice standards. The LVN will follow directions of and collaborate with the RN Charge Nurse and other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care, delivery, and achievement of desired patient outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Shows comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients which is appropriate to their age:
1. Adult
2. Geriatric
3. Pediatric
4. Adolescent
5. Normal newborn
Skills are versatile, is able to perform in more than one nursing area.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over a life span.
Receives report at change of shift from charge nurse.
Gives a thorough and concise report to the charge nurse.
Assesses each patient’s individual needs, taking into account the prescribed treatment, regimen, medications and nursing care. Utilizes verbal report, medical report and physical assessment as appropriate.
Reports appropriate data to the attending physician instructed by the charge nurse.
Checks and carries out all doctor’s orders. Follows through on doctor’s orders to ensure that all new orders are implemented in a timely manner.
Takes into consideration the age, growth and development of the patient population served when planning care.
Takes necessary steps to ensure that documentation by self and supervised staff is accurate, concise and complete; on the record and in the logbook.

Education, Knowledge and Skills
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Must be currently licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as a Professional Nurse.
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, PALS.
Must successfully pass competency orientation for this position, NRP preferred.

Requirements

Experience and Training
At least one (1) year of experience as a staff nurse with demonstrated supervisory ability of prior supervisory experience.
Continuing education in both clinical and management subjects is encouraged.
Skills in a variety of clinical areas are necessary.

Physical and Mental Requirements
Often work with infectious specimens. Infection control and sterilization protocols must be followed to minimize these hazards. Position requires frequent hours of standing and stooping.

History:

Ward Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed critical access facility providing healthcare services to Ward County and 14 surrounding counties in the area. The hospital has served residents of Ward County since 1956.

The hospital features a Level IV trauma designated emergency room, in addition to a wide range of medical services including laboratory, radiology, general surgery, sleep wellness center, respiratory therapy and cardiac/pulmonary rehab, rheumatology, physical therapy, and two rural health clinics.
