ER Manager/Trauma Coordinator - FT
The Emergency Room (ER) Manager/Trauma Coordinator position is multifaceted requiring performance in several different roles. These roles include Department Manager, Trauma Coordinator, Trauma Registrar, Medical Staff Liaison.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Emergency Room Managers:
1. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the emergency nursing theory and practice, being able to perform all duties of the staff being supervised.
2. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in the emergency setting.
3. Utilizes principles of physical growth and development to assess the needs of the infant, child, adolescent, adult or geriatric in the ER setting.
4. Responds to emergencies as necessary and takes initiative to ensure that care is delivered in a rapid, orderly manner by staff members on duty.
5. Demonstrates sound decision-making skills by gathering and analyzing pertinent facts.
6. Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development through reading, independent study, continuing education programs and new learning opportunities.
7. Assists in developing and implementing ER policies and procedures based on established standards of practice; advises other members of the ER team, including physicians, of current protocols.
8. Assists in revising, enforcing, and interpreting job description for each level of personnel.
9. Assists in the orientation of new hospital personnel to the Emergency Room.
10. Takes necessary steps to ensure that medical record documentation by all ER staff is accurate, concise and complete.
11. Reports to the CNO and/or Administrator
Potential risk management problems.
Patient/family complaints and resolution of the complaint.
Equipment needs.
12. Participates in hospital activities including public education and public relations.
13. Prepares monthly staffing schedule.
14. Assists with staffing as needed to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained.
15. Works with Nursing Hospital Administration in the development of strategic plans
16. Responsible for ER personnel decisions
17. Participates in hospital QAPI activities.
18. Other duties, as assigned by CNO and/or Administrator.

Trauma Coordinator:
1. Actively participate in the ongoing monitoring of injured patients with purpose of facilitating continuity and appropriateness of care. Injured patients include trauma transfers, trauma team activations, trauma codes, trauma deaths, and trauma admissions (from admission to discharge).
2. Educate staff on appropriate care of trauma patients.
3. Responsible for trauma designation/re-designation applications, surveys, and focus surveys as indicated by TDH (Texas Department of Health).
4. Responsible for monitoring trauma data to identify problems and ensure these indicators become part of the quality improvement process.
5. Report all trauma transfers and deaths to the Trauma Registry as required by the State.
6. Assists in determining and maintaining standards of nursing practice adopted by Ward Memorial Hospital as a level IV trauma center.
7. Responsible for record reviews required by the hospital wide and regional (“J”RAC) PI.
8. Responsible for review of all necessary information required by TDH (Texas Department of Health).
EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE
• The Emergency Room Manager/Trauma Coordinator must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, hold a current Texas RN licensure and have at least one year of management or previous supervisory experience and/or have a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or higher.
Must have excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, organization and leadership skills.
Computer knowledge required.

Bachelor of Science (BSN) Degree in Nursing preferred. Masters of Science (MSN) Degree preferred in Nursing Administration.

• Certification in area of specialty (e.g., CEN, CPEN, CCRN, CNOR) preferred
• Certification in nursing leadership or professional development preferred (e.g., CNML)
• ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC required within 18 months of date of employment in the ED.
• ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC instructor status preferred.
