Phlebotomist -FT - Laboratory

Position Summary:

Reporting and accountable to the Laboratory Manager, the Phlebotomist will be required to perform collections to patients of all ages in a high-paced environment. They will be responsible for accurate patient identification and proper labeling of specimens.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collect blood specimens for laboratory tests on inpatients and outpatients, including pediatric and elderly.
Data Processing (using LIS and HIS) as needed.
Performs routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure, as applicable.
Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement and maintenance needed of equipment.
Maintains stock of supplies.

Education, Knowledge and Skills
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
Certification from an accredited institution
Strong customer service skills

Requirements

Experience and Training
Minimum of six months experience, preferably in a hospital setting
Certified Phlebotomy Technician preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements
Often work with infectious specimens. Infection control and sterilization protocols must be followed to minimize these hazards. Position requires frequent hours of standing and stooping.

History:

Ward Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed critical access facility providing healthcare services to Ward County and 14 surrounding counties in the area. The hospital has served residents of Ward County since 1956.

The hospital features a Level IV trauma designated emergency room, in addition to a wide range of medical services including laboratory, radiology, general surgery, sleep wellness center, respiratory therapy and cardiac/pulmonary rehab, rheumatology, physical therapy, and two rural health clinics.
