PT Aide/Custodian

Position Summary:

The physical therapy aide/ custodian is a member of physical therapy department support teams. Working under the supervision of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants. PT Aide/ Custodian will perform nonmedical tasks, such as setting up and cleaning treatment rooms, transporting patients to different areas of a health care facility, and for daily cleaning of PT building and patient rooms. Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Essential Duties
A competent PT Aide would need:
• A strong desire to help others
• Active listening: an ability to hear and carry our precise instructions from a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant. Listening to the needs of patients also is important.
• Interpersonal skills: an ability to read other people’s cues and react accordingly.
• Attention to detail: patients have precise exercises that are part of their treatment, and equipment must be prepared properly to handle these. It is also important to keep treatment rooms neat and orderly.
• Stamina: moving and preparing equipment and helping to move patients can be physically demanding some days.
• Compassion: patients often are recovering from injuries or dealing with other serious health issues. A genuine concern for their recovery or well-being is vital to being a good P.T. aide.

Education, Knowledge and Skills
Must be at least 18 years of age, High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.
Must be a team player.

Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
