Pharmacy Technician

Position Summary:

Reporting and accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Licensed Consultant Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will assist our licensed pharmacist with the preparation and distribution of prescription medications, help fill orders for patients and ensure the pharmacy department is stocked to meet patient needs.

The tech is responsible for inventory control in the hospital pharmacy. When deliveries arrive, the tech will verify the amount of product received matches to amount of product ordered. The tech rotates stock, removes expired medications and performs other duties as needed.

The tech is also required to perform a variety of clerical duties such as answering the phone, providing customer service to hospital staff and filling out requisition forms or other paperwork as needed.

The tech will also work closely with the Business Office to ensure daily charges entered are accurate and free of errors.

Job Requirements:
Must have knowledge of drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use and aseptic techniques.
Must be able to work independently, accurately and efficiently.
Must demonstrate basic pharmacy knowledge of reading interpreting prescriptions.

Experience and Education Requirements:
Must have a current certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and must have an active registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

History:

Ward Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed critical access facility providing healthcare services to Ward County and 14 surrounding counties in the area. The hospital has served residents of Ward County since 1956.

The hospital features a Level IV trauma designated emergency room, in addition to a wide range of medical services including laboratory, radiology, general surgery, sleep wellness center, respiratory therapy and cardiac/pulmonary rehab, rheumatology, physical therapy, and two rural health clinics.
