Medical Technologist - Laboratory
Position Summary:
The Medical Technologist is capable of working without supervision, but is responsible for following all policies and procedures of the laboratory.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of the Laboratory and/or Laboratory Manager
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include both routine and complex analysis, performed using application, principles, theories and techniques approved by Ward Memorial Hospital and the Director of the Laboratory.
• Performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments
• Analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease
• Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
• Studies blood cells, their numbers, and morphology, using microscopic technique.
• Performs blood group, type, and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes.
• Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer.
Education, Knowledge and Skills
Degree Required: BS Medical Technology
Special Requirement: AMT or ASCP License or eligible for certification

Experience and Training
At least 12 months hospital clinical laboratory experience
Physical and Mental Requirements
Often work with infectious specimens. Infection control and sterilization protocols must be followed to minimize these hazards. Position requires frequent hours of standing and stooping.

History:
Ward Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed critical access facility providing healthcare services to Ward County and 14 surrounding counties in the area. The hospital has served residents of Ward County since 1956.
The hospital features a Level IV trauma designated emergency room, in addition to a wide range of medical services including laboratory, radiology, general surgery, sleep wellness center, respiratory therapy and cardiac/pulmonary rehab, rheumatology, physical therapy, and two rural health clinics.
